He produces everything from grade lumber to material for log homes. What would he tell others about the SELECT sawmill? "It's worked good for me. You don't have much maintenance on it. It's pretty durable" |

Milling walnut for high grade: "A mill using a 1-1/2 band can only cut so fast... it doesn`t matter how much power the engine puts out. Then they took us to an operation that has been cutting 30,000 board feet of pine per day for the last 16 years running two shifts per day. The unique bi-directional cutting action of the SELECT mill, coupled with a feed rate of up to 3 feet per second mill makes for high production." |

When the first Select 4221 was purchased, it was used to cut pine.
“We were cutting a lot of high-grade pine at the time,” said Greg. The SELECT
machine was a great match. “You can saw, saw, saw – it’s a double cut. That
was a big thing.”

" In the 12 years since we started the mill we have cut 29,995,884bm. If we had the log supply I guarantee we could have added another 10 to 12 million to that number. Still I think that is pretty impressive for a SELECT mill with only a 1-2” board edger supporting it. " |

When it comes to the production of dimension lumber in Canada, it's hard—if not impossible—to beat the major forest companies at this game. Their large, modern sawmills are extremely efficient, easily turning out millions of board feet of product every week. We knew from the start that we weren’t going to be able to buy a really big piece of mill equipment—it was just too costly. But we wanted something that could get us solid production numbers. So we decided on a SELECT, which we call a small sawmill on steroids. We haven’t regretted buying it for even a second.” |
